Classic Facial Step by Step
You’ll always want to start any service in the salon with a full consultation. This is a time when you and your client can share information, find out what concerns or problematic areas she may have and what results she is looking for. You will find out what products you’ll use depending on her skin type.
Wrap the hair up in a towel or binder and apply a headband to keep hair away from the face.
Remove any makeup with cotton pads. Choose a cleanser appropriate for your clients skin type and cleanse the face. Remove cleanser with a warm wet towel.
Cover your clients eyes with two wet pads and shine a light on the skin so you can inspect the surface. Use the magnifying glass to determine the skin type.
Apply
steam to the face. This will allow your client to relax and will also loosen up the tight skin, allowing for ease cleaning out the pores.
Using an exfoliant that fits your clients needs, apply in circular motions. Maintain a rhythm to relax your customer as you exfoliate, and be sure and cover each area of the face well. Some exfoliants need to be left on the skin for some time to remove blackheads. Always follow the manufacturers directions. Remove exfoliating product with a warm, wet towel.
Next, you’ll begin the extractions of whiteheads and blackheads. The magnifying glass will be used during this part of the service. There are many ways to go about extracting, therefore use your best judgement on how you’ll go about. This step should not be painful due to all of the preparation you’ve done to the skin’s surface already.
For the facial massage, use a light facial lotion or oil, depending on the skin type you are working with. This step creates a deep relaxing experience for your customer. Gently massage the facial muscles following your own pattern and rhythm to offer ultimate relaxation.
Last, apply a
facial mask. Some masks work best with steam. Facial masks will treat any surface conditions and lock moisture into the skin. During this step, while the facial mask is working, offer a hand massage, foot massage, or both, depending on time.
Follow the mask with any specialty creams, gels, or serums that will enhance the appearance of your clients skin.
Upon ending the service, recommend products as well as a follow up appointment. Educate your client on what she can do at home. Show her what products she can use, how to use them and why it will benefit her skin in the long run to stick to a skin care regimen every day.
